About Us
The club was established in 1906.
The stone pictured, was laid by F E Smith Esq, MP, on the fifth of May 1906, which represented the opening of the Club. This stone is now placed in the room overlooking the green.
we have a large function room upstairs that caters for many occasions. Go to the contact section of the site for phone and email details.
if you wish to join, you are asked to present yourself in front of the Committee on a given date, and if successful, you will pay your yearly membership and receive your membership card.
A mainstay of the club is the incredible crown green bowling, which actually started in 1906!
we boast one of the most successful clubs throughout Wirral, with teams in the Wallasey and Birkenhead leagues which cover all ages, and mixed pairs.
There are three teams also in the Veterans league, plus the ladies compete in their own league.
Throughout the season there are several club competitions, which have been active for many years.
The bowling section organises charity and fun days, where non- bowlers are paired with regular bowlers.
The Green is maintained by volunteers, “The Merry Mowers”, bowlers who give their own time to achieve the amazing green and surrounds. (See picture).

CENTRAL CONSERVATIVE CLUB
Membership steadily increasing
The Second Annual meeting of the members of the Wallasey Central Conservative Club Ltd was held at the club on Monday evening.
Mr. A. E. Robinson presiding over a capitol attendance.
Mr. J. Williams in presenting the annual report, said that the membership was highly satisfactory, an increase of Twenty-Two having been obtained during the past year, the membership being168, to last year’s 146. The deaths were regretfully recorded of Messrs W. A. Robinson, Thomas Lloyd and W. Leicester, who passed away during the year. The first named, the late chairman, was a great asset to the Club, having steered the Club through good and bad for many years, to its present strong position. His memory would be ever kept green by the presence of his portrait in the Club.
With regard to finance, the position of the Club was a very healthy one, and although the income had not been as great as last year, chiefly owing to loss of returns from entertainments, it was considered very satisfactory. Politics during the last year had been very much to the fore, and it was very gratifying to know that the members had done such good work at the local November elections, when the Conservatives had gained such a splendid victory, and they were pleased to say that two of the new Councillors were members of the club. Wallasey must be congratulated on keeping the Conservative flag flying by returning Sir Burton Chadwick to Parliament.
The entertainment committee, although having met with good social success, had not improved financially, but must be congratulated on giving the entertainments at a reduced figure.
Billiards had gone with the usual swing, under the able guidance of Mr. Foster and Mr. McConchie. Last year’s championship had been won by Mr. McConchie, who had beaten Mr. Abbot in the final, and was to be congratulated on his success. “The Dr. McDonald Turkey” had been won by Mr. Cockle, a young and enterprising player, who beat Mr. Carlyle in the final. The snooker handicap as won by Mr. Abbot, with Mr. K. Williams runner-up.
Under the Captaincy of Mr. Howes, the bowling club had had a successful year. The green was in good condition, but it would probably show greater improvements in the near future. Five very enjoyable mains were played, in which the first prizes were won by Messrs. Holt. Thackeray. Williams. Douglas and Worthington, and the Championship was won by Mr. Harry Jago, the runner-up being Mr. K. Williams. The friendly matches had been very enjoyable and successful, three having been won at home, and one away, and also two away lost. The League team, under the Captaincy of Mr. Harry Sewell, had done very well, winning four matches and losing five. The Club had decided not to enter the League this year. The Wallasey International Competition and the Wallasey and Birkenhead District match were played on the Club’s green and were much enjoyed, especially the former. The Ladies Bowling Club had also had a very enjoyable season and a certainly more successful one than the gentlemen, having won eight out of ten matches played, and the Captain Mrs. Hartill, must be congratulated on the result.
The Annual picnic (ladies only) was a huge success. There was a rumour that the gentlemen will be invited next year. The ladies continued their winter whist drives and dances on ’alternate’ Saturday evenings with the pleasing result that they were able to make donations of five guineas to the Central Hospital, Unemployed, Lifeboat Fund, Dr. Steven’s Children’s Home, and the District Nursing Fund.
With regard to the extension of the premises, Mr. Williams thought that the matter had been rushed through, and with only the opinion of one architect behind them. There were other ways to alter the building. The number of clients upstairs was deteriorating, and more competition was abroad in the borough. If the extension was proceeded with, it would add more to their yearly costs, and they would lose £60 to £80 during the alterations. He thought that the scheme was not a business proposition and would never pay. He recommended the Club to wait and take serious consideration.
The recommendation was put to the vote, and was lost, twenty voting for and forty-three against. At the conclusion of the evening the following officers were elected~ President Dr. B. McDonald, Vice-Presidents, Sir Burton Chadwick. MP. And Messrs. S. Atkinson. W. H. Edmonds. A. W. Collings. and Aldermen Eastwood and Quinn: Chairman. Mr. A. F. Robinson: Vice-Chairman. Mr. L. C. Bower: Secretary; Mr. W. H. Smith: Treasurer; Mr. A. G. Macklin; and the Committee included Messrs. T. F. Wright. R. Precious. W. Mc Conehy. F. Slinger. J. Nicolson and W. F. Suter.
